This part-song is one of many Schubert contributed to the century-long vogue of ensemble singing among the middle classes. Like much of this literature, the song eschews fanfare for sentimental frankness and espouses the interconnection of love and nature. Also typical of its type, it is basically homophonic with the melody in the top voice. Atypically, however, Liebe consists of a single verse.
