In the melody of this piece, with text by Timothy Rees (1874–1939), there is a process in which the last tone of a fragment is repeated to begin the next fragment. Then, both parts are linked by a common tone, one of the musical suggestions by Leonard Meyer (1956) for the Gestalt principle of good continuation. The congregation optionally appears in the final strophe, along with a descant sung by the sopranos.
