biography.

Born and raised in Singapore, Joan is a composer whose works range from solos to chamber ensembles. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music (Composition) at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST), National University of Singapore, under the tutelage of Associate Professor Peter Ivan Edwards.

Joan’s works have been performed at various events. She has worked with ensembles such as Wu Xian, a contemporary chamber music ensemble, under the Young Composers’ Academy in YST in 2018, Protégé Saxophone Ensemble in 2019, as well as musicians under the Music Elective Programme and choristers back in her alma maters.

Beyond composing, Joan is also interested in music education and pedagogy, having taught in schools and tutored prior to university. She is also fascinated by poetry and art, and plans to explore the multidisciplinary nature of the Arts, combining sounds with other areas of the Arts to create a multisensory experience for others.
