Jane Kozhevnikova.

biography.

Jane Kozhevnikova is a composer, performer, and educator based in Florida. "Consistently beautiful, deeply moving, and accessible," as well as "some of the most peaceful and emotionally charged," her music has been performed across the United States and internationally. She is particularly known for art songs with haunting melodies and sensitive text setting.
The scope of her works ranges from solo and chamber to orchestra, from theatre to film scoring, from contemporary classical to jazz and pop. As a jazz composer, she led her own ensembles and earned two master's degrees in jazz composition and performance at Western Michigan University. She then expanded her areas of interest and completed her Ph.D. in Music Composition at the University of Florida, focusing her dissertation research on vocal music.

Interdisciplinarity and collaboration is a part of her creative spirit. She was a part of four, including the leadership for two SOUND/MOVES installments that bring together composers and dancers in the exploration of art works at the UF Harn Museum of Art. Her pieces were performed by multiple new music ensembles such as Lorelei, Ekmeles, Quince, TAK, Sputter Box, Unheard-of, FLYDLPHN, BlackBox, NuQuintet, ~Nois, Ensemble dal Niente, The Blank Experiment, and JACK Quartet.

Her works have been recognized with multiple awards including the Renée B. Fisher Composer Award, the Atchley Opera New Score winner, the John Ness Beck Foundation awardee, the Gena Branscombe Art Song Prize, and the First Prize at the Opus Ignotum International Composers' Competition in the Czech Republic.
