A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Elliott Stewart (he/him/his) is an avid composer, arranger, educator, conductor, and musician. As an instrumentalist with a strong marching band background, Mr. Stewart pushes the boundaries in his works that challenges musicians to create music at the highest level possible. Many of his arrangements and compositions have been successfully performed by high school bands and professional wind ensembles including the Ridge View High School Wind Ensemble in Columbia, SC, the Westwood High School Red Hawk Regiment Marching Band in Blythewood, SC, the Lakeside Concert Band in Greenville, SC, and Appalachia: A Southeastern Wind Symphony in Knoxville, TN. Inspired by film and contemporary electronic music, Elliott collaborates those particular sounds and timbres with Classical instrumental works. He also creates a platform to highlight composers and musicians from underrepresented communities that continue to advance the wind band, orchestral, choral, and contemporary music mediums. Mr. Stewart strives to create sounds and textures in his music from various world cultures to share with his students and audiences alike.
Elliott earned his Bachelor's degree in Trumpet Performance from Furman University, Greenville, SC in 2016. He then went to pursue and earn a Master's degree in Music Education with Initial Certification from Converse College, Spartanburg, SC, in 2019. His composition mentors are Mr. Jay Bocook, Dr. Dan Koppelman, and Mr. Josh Hinkel. His conducting/music education mentors are Dr. Leslie Hicken, Dr. Hugh Floyd, Dr. Susana Lalama, Dr. Patricia Foy, and Mr. Tim Franklin. His professional affiliations include T.UX. People’s Music Publishing Company, ASCAP Music Licensing Company, National Association for Music Education, South Carolina Music Educators Association, South Carolina Band Directors Association, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. Mr. Stewart has taught middle school and high school band for the past 5 years in South Carolina. During his free time, Elliott enjoys living a healthy and active lifestyle and has run in many half-marathon races! |
