biography.
Daniel Tovar is a self-taught composer specializing in music for the marching arts, with additional work for concert band. Raised in Sarasota, Florida, he developed a passion for marching music at an early age and began studying composition independently through score study, listening, and hands-on experience.
As a performer, Tovar marched four seasons of Drum Corps International (DCI) and three seasons of indoor winds. Those experiences have had a lasting influence on his approach to composition, giving him a firsthand understanding of the demands of the activity and the importance of writing music that is both engaging to perform and effective on the field and floor. Now based in Fredericksburg, Texas, Tovar continues to compose original music for marching ensembles and concert bands. Drawing on his experience as both a performer and composer, he strives to create music that challenges performers, connects with audiences, and contributes to the continued growth of the marching arts. |
