Vol. 2 | No. 18 | By TUX People's Music Team
Many often lament that ensembles today are just “not interested in performing new music from living composers”. But oftentimes it really comes down to just simply not having the time to look to find these new works! Finding music in general can be utterly overwhelming and add in a time crunch…just picking some things from your music library and calling it a day can be quite alluring.
As a publisher, we are always on the lookout for fresh and exciting new music to share by equally exciting new composers. Today we are going to offer some of our favorite ways and recommendations for digging up fresh new materials for your next choral, band, or orchestra concert. Let’s make finding new and engaging music a breeze!
Facebook Groups and Search:
Love it or hate it, but in our opinion, you won’t find a stronger and more active community of composers than on Facebook. Throughout a variety of groups and individual composer pages you will stumble upon an astonishing array of new works just waiting to be shared with your musicians.

These organizations exist to help living composer's music be seen and curated in a digestible fashion. Take to these group’s websites and find a list of amazing composer’s that certainly have something your group would love. If the task of filing through all of these individual composers seems daunting, reach out to the organization, offer to host a collaboration concert, or even stay posted for an upcoming consortium hosted by the group!
Diversity and other advocacy initiatives:
Many of these initiatives boast a phenomenal database that offer you the opportunity to discover a lot of amazing new pieces all in one place.
Your local music retailer:
Yes we understand that the time to physically go down to your local music shop is usually non-existent. However, we urge you to give them a call! Much of the time browsing online for new music just brings us a lot of the same material and composers we have been playing for years, grab the phone and ask your local store what they have that’s new or recommend for your group. Even as a publisher, we LOVE when directors give us a call for recommendations!
