biography.Randall Snyder was born in Chicago in 1944. In high school he received a Downbeat Magazine Student Hall of Fame
Award for jazz composition and a scholarship to the inaugural Stan Kenton Band Camp in 1962. He attended Quincy College and the University of Wisconsin earning a DMA degree in 1973 and has studied Korean music at the Traditional Performing Arts Institute in Seoul. Snyder has taught at colleges in Illinois, Wisconsin and the University of Nebraska, where he was resident composer. Several of his orchestral and chamber works are available on the CRS, VMM, North/South, Coronet, Opus One, Albany, and Elan labels, many of which are published by Universal Editions. In addition to his compositional activity, Snyder has taught courses in Jazz, Ethnomusicology, Rock and Roll and continues to be active as a jazz performer, appearing as bassist in two documentary films with Kansas City pianist Jay McShann. |
