biography.The compositions of Jonathan Santore have been performed nationally and internationally and have won awards including The American Prize in Composition and the American Composers Forum Welcome Christmas! Carol Contest. Santore began his musical life as a trumpet player in his native east Tennessee, where he first became interested in creating music. He holds academic degrees from Duke, UT-Austin, and UCLA, and his composition teachers include Stephen Jaffe, Eugene Kurtz, Donald Grantham, and William Kraft.
From 2004 to 2019, Santore served as Composer in Residence for the New Hampshire Master Chorale. There Are Many Other Legends, an album featuring his NHMC work, was released by Navona Records in 2017, and his work is also featured on albums from Albany, Centaur, and Naxos Records. In recent years, Santore’s interest in digital media has led to compositions that have been featured at festivals including the Prague Quadrennial and the Studio 300 Digital Art and Music Festival. Santore is currently Stevens-Bristow Endowed Professor of Music at Plymouth State University in New Hampshire, where he teaches composition and theory, and has received both the Distinguished Teaching Award and the Award for Distinguished Scholarship for his compositional work.
