about.
Giraffe Fantasy, after the poetry of Nikolai Gumilyov, invites the performers to use their instruments in unconventional ways without being too musically demanding.
This music is inspired by the poem ‘Giraffe’ by Nikolai Gumilyov, Russian poet of the early 20th century. The first and third parts draw a rainy St. Petersburg. The poet writes of his beloved woman who is sad. To reassure her, he invites her to imagine the beauty of Africa. The giraffe as its symbol. Since the poet is a romantic and lives in St. Petersburg, he uses what is available to him, that is, stringed instruments, to depict Africa. But they are used in some interestingly unconventional ways!
