biography.

Derek Taylor is a music educator and composer who lives in the fair and friendly city of New Albany, Mississippi, where he has recently completed his sixteenth year in education, all in the same county. He began his instrumental studies in earnest as a tenth grader at Clarkdale Attendance Center in Meridian, Mississippi, as a trombonist in his school band. He continued his musical studies at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi for a year and acquired his bachelor of music education degree from Mississippi State University. Soon after, he acquired a master's degree in music education from the University of Mississippi. He currently serves as a freelance trombonist for a wide variety of venues and settings, performing in jazz, orchestral, chamber, and wind ensemble settings. He and his loving wife, Claire, have two energetic, happy daughters, Emily and Ellie.
