about.
Quasi-improvisatory, yet thorough and deep, December brings forward memories of those who we have lost in a short three-part form.
December is a piano ballade in D minor, written in memory of the composer’s grandmother S Jayamma, who had passed away on the 10th of December 2019. This contemporary Nocturne starts off with an improvised recitative in F major, gradually establishing its rhythm and theme in D minor, the structure in its majority of which is reminiscent of some of Beethoven’s Adagio-movements for solo piano. It then translates to a waltz in F major, and subsequently into A minor, before establishing the end with the introductory recitative. December won Global Music Awards honors in the Contemporary Classical Music category in April 2020.
