biography.Aaron D. McMichael - b. 1979. Is an alumnus of the Long Beach High School Band, Mr. McMichael. His influence to start writing music began when he would bring home the many free cassette tapes and CD’s the band director would receive from various music publishing catalogs. He holds degrees from Jones County Junior College (A.A.) Troy State University (B.M.E.) and University of Texas at Brownsville (M.M.E.). He is a former marching member of The Cavaliers and The Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps. Eventually, he would move to Texas where he has been teaching middle school and high school band for over 20 years. While teaching in Texas he has garnered many accolades: Sweepstakes or Division I bands (Mercedes H.S. Freshman Band, Mercedes Concert Band, Harrell Middle School, Chacon Middle School, Faulk Middle School Sub-Non Varsity Band, Progreso HS Sweepstakes (First time in schools history). In addition to superior concert bands, he has placed students in Region bands and Region Jazz Bands for Brass for high school and middle school. In 2021 his piece Angels in the Sky received the ATSSB Honorable Mention distinction for a composing competition. In addition, he has five J.W. Pepper Editors Choice awards for: The Brave Warrior, Sunrise on South Padre Island, The Conquest, The Winter Storm, and The Lizard King He is married to his wife Rosy McMichael and they live with their son, three dogs, and turtle in Brownsville, TX.
